INDOT Hiring in Gary

October 27, 2014 — The Indiana Department of Transportation is hiring up to 26 entry-level seasonal and full-time employees at a job fair this Thursday, Oct. 30. Interested candidates should attend a job fair being held from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Central time at INDOT’s Gary Subdistrict, located at 7601 Melton Rd., Gary, IN 46403.

All positions would involve performing general highway maintenance duties, including snow plowing, during the winter season and require new hires to:

  • Submit to and pass a drug test as a condition of employment;
  • Be able to lift 50 pounds and perform general functions, such as lifting, dragging, stooping, waving and other activities;
  • Be able to endure exposure to inclement weather; and
  • Be able to rotate shifts when necessary.

If available, applicants should bring their resume, commercial driver’s license, current medical examiner’s certificate and proof of high school diploma or equivalent.

INDOT’s Gary Subdistrict, which maintains state highways in portions of northern Lake and Porter counties, is seeking 14 seasonal workers to perform general highway maintenance duties as needed this winter from November through March. The pay rate is $15 per hour and does not include benefits. Seasonal winter workers must possess a valid commercial driver’s license. In addition, INDOT is seeking 12 full-time highway technicians to help oversee construction projects across northwest Indiana. The pay rate is $15.40 per hour with full benefits. Construction highway technicians must have a high school diploma or equivalent and be able to perform basic math calculations. The position also performs general highway maintenance duties during the winter months and new hires must be able to obtain and maintain a commercial driver’s license within 90 days.
