INDOT Bucket Truck Fell Along I-65

Share Tweet Email

June 3, 2013 — Indiana State Police say an Indiana Department of Transportation worker suffered a broken leg today when a bucket truck tipped with him on-board.

ISP’s preliminary investigation by Sergeant Doug Parcel shows that at about 12:23pm three INDOT workers assigned to the Laporte District Traffic Department were trying to fix a large road sign on the right (outer) shoulder of I-65 just south of the Crown Point exit.

ISP says while one worker outside the bucket truck operated the boom controls, 46-year-old Hope Fogus of Michigan City and 31-year-old Herman Hendricks of Westville were in the lifted bucket when it fell over. State Police say Fogus was not injured but Hendricks sustained a broken leg from the fall, with neither of them ejected from the bucket when it fell, and Hendricks was taken to Saint Anthony’s Hospital in Crown Point for his injury.

ISP reopened the traffic lanes after a temporary closure to care for the workers and upright the truck.
