Indianapolis Tech star Lyles wins Mr. Basketball
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — Trey Lyles of Class 4A state champion Indianapolis Arsenal Tech is The Indianapolis Star’s Mr. Basketball winner for 2014.
The 6-foot-10 Kentucky recruit averaged 23.7 points and 12.9 rebounds in leading Tech to a 27-2 record and the first state title for the Indianapolis Public Schools since 1980.
The Star reports Lyles won the Mr. Basketball award in a narrow three-way race. Lyles received 117 votes cast by media and coaches, while Trevon Bluiett of Park Tudor received 108 and James Blackmon Jr. of Marion got 95.
Lyles averaged double figures in points and rebounds all four years for Tech.
