Indiana June Jobless Rate Climbs Slightly

June 19, 2013 — The Indiana unemployment rate for June hit 8.4 percent, compared to 8.3 percent in May. The state says 5,300 private sector jobs were created in June, with most of that growth in manufacturing. Indiana Department of Workforce Development Commissioner Scott Sanders says the sector had its largest one-month job increase in nearly a decade.

Lake County’s unemployment rate in June was 10.4 percent; LaPorte County is at 10.2 percent; Jasper County’s rate is at 9.4 percent; Newton County’s rate is 9 percent and Porter County’s June unemployment rate is 8.4 percent.

Fountain County has the highest unemployment rate in the Hoosier State at 12.4 percent. The lowest is 6.2 percent in Hamilton and Dubois counties.
