Indiana GOP Wants 2014 Convention Outside Indy

Network Indiana’s Eric Berman reports that next year‘s state Republican convention could be held outside Indianapolis for the first time….

The G-O-P‘s rules committee will meet this week to remove a party by-law requiring the convention to be held in the capital city. Democrats moved their convention to Fort Wayne last year, and Allen County‘s Republican Party has been lobbying for its own chance to play host.    State chairman Eric Holcomb notes Indy has already shown it can meet the party‘s hotel, security and transportation needs. As long as other cities can do so, he says the party will consider what else they have to offer, from music to social gatherings for delegates.   Holcomb says he expects a decision on the convention site sometime this summer.   Next year‘s convention will choose the party nominees for secretary of state, treasurer and auditor. Republicans currently hold all three offices. Secretary of State Connie Lawson is expected to seek a full term after being appointed to the post last year. Treasurer Richard Mourdock and Auditor Tim Berry are barred from seeking a third consecutive term.
