Indiana freshman Luke Fischer leaves school
December 30, 2013 (AP) – Indiana freshman Luke Fischer has withdrawn from school and is expected to transfer.
The move comes one day before the Hoosiers open Big Ten play at Illinois.
“Luke has decided to withdraw from Indiana and pursue another educational and basketball opportunity,” IU coach Tom Crean said in a news release. “He explained to us he is looking for a different fit for him. We hate to see a fine young man like Luke leave, but he has made his decision and we wish the entire Fischer family well.”
Fischer, a 6-foot-11 center, was expected to help fill the void left by the early departure of Cody Zeller to the NBA. Fischer played in all 13 games for the Hoosiers (10-3) and was averaging 2.8 points and 2.1 rebounds in 10.0 minutes.
Last year, Fischer was Wisconsin’s Mr. Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year.
