Indiana Democrats Call For Probe of GOP Rep. Turner
March 19, 2014 — Indiana Democratic Party Chair John Zody requested that Speaker Brian Bosma investigate, then report to the public any findings regarding Rep. Eric Turner’s recent actions to kill a bill that would have hurt his immediate family’s business interests. In addition, Zody requested information including emails, phone calls, and other official documents in which Rep. Turner inquired about the nursing home moratorium bill.
“Rep. Eric Turner is second-in-command in the Indiana House of Representatives, and, during session, he abused his authority in that position,” said Zody. “Not only did he focus his efforts this session on divisive social issues, but now we’re seeing evidence that his behavior behind closed doors is much different from what he does in public. This is an egregious example of nepotism in the Statehouse.”
“Furthermore, House Speaker Brian Bosma needs to get his caucus in order. Does he approve of this behavior? Does he believe it is okay to tell Hoosiers one thing and then do another when he thinks no one is watching?”
“When voters cast their ballots, they do so in good faith and trust that someone is looking out for them. Rep. Turner broke that trust and his constituents no longer have faith in him. We can do better in Indiana.”
A copy of this letter is being hand-delivered to House Speaker Brian Bosma’s Office.
