Indiana American Water Seeks Another Rate Increase
March 18, 2014 — The Associated Press–
Indiana American Water customers will have a chance to comment on a proposed water rate increase next month. One of two public meetings is on April 10th in Gary.
The Office of Utility Consumer Counselor says Indiana American wants state approval to raise rates to cover projects such as replacement of aging mains, treatment plant projects and storage tank renovation. For most of the utility’s residential customers using 5,000 gallons per month, the monthly water bill would rise from $37.35 to $39.75.
If approved by the Indiana Utility Regulatory Commission, Indiana American’s proposal would raise its total annual operating revenues by $19.6 million. Indiana American’s rates have increased twice since their approval in 2012 to cover aging infrastructure.
