IHSAA looks into complaint of racial behavior
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) — The Indiana High School Athletic Association is investigating complaints that a students engaged in racially charged behavior at a girls high school basketball semi-state game.
IHSAA Assistant Commissioner Chris Kaufman said Wednesday it was investigating complaints made by Indianapolis Lawrence North High School against Bedford North Lawrence.
The Indianapolis Star reports Lawrence North Principal Brett Crousore complained some members of the Bedford student section wore gorilla outfits and safari gear at Saturday’s game won by Bedford. Those in the gorilla costumes stood at the Lawrence North basket during warm-ups by the all-black Indianapolis team.
Bedford athletic director Jeff Callahan said the students were asked to remove the gorilla costumes early in the game. He said the gorilla suits have been worn at games throughout the season.
