Hoosier’s Hibiscus Not “Weed”

Share Tweet Email

September 11, 2013 — Reports to police have led a northeastern Indiana woman to put in her front yard a sign saying, “Hibiscus, Not Pot.”

Kim Miller says she’s hurt that some people think she would be growing marijuana in in front of her home in the Huntington County town of Warren.  She says the flowering hibiscus plant has sentimental value since it was gift from a former neighbor.

A town police officer checked out the plant to make sure it wasn’t marijuana and the department suggested the sign to Miller.

Town Marshal Dennis Spitler says marijuana plants are sometimes found around the town about 20 miles south of Fort Wayne, but not in front yards.

Miller says she hopes the sign ends rumors and that she can soon take it down.
