Hoosier Statesman Launches Lugar Center
Indiana’s retired U.S. Senator Richard Lugar says a new initiative bearing his name intends to focus on solving world problems without political posturing. Sunday he announced the launch of The Lugar Center, with the letter below shared with Lakeshore from the Navy veteran and former Indianapolis mayor who then was the longest serving U.S. Congressional member in Indiana’s history before his 2012 state Republican primary defeat for reelection.
Letter from Richard Lugar and The Lugar Center:
I want you to be among the first to know the exciting news of the establishment of The Lugar Center.
Now outside of government, I am encouraged by the many ways we can effect change with a nimbleness that was not possible in the Senate. It is my goal that The Lugar Center will be dedicated to solving 21st Century problems by educating the public, policymakers and future leaders on critical issues. We plan to accomplish these goals by providing a timely forum for the best analysis and respectful discussion of remedies.
Most importantly, the center’s focus will be on solutions not positions. We want to inspire action steps — to move quickly to do the best we can do right now.
We recently launched our new website – www.thelugarcenter.org. I hope you will take the time to visit it and become a part of solving some of the great challenges we plan to address.
Richard G. Lugar
United States Senator, ret.
