Lake Station’s Police Chief says he is investigating a late night crash that left a fatality while also leaving a house off its foundation.

Police Chief Kevin Garber says the 25-year-old driver died from injuries in a single-car crash in the 3800 block of Liverpool Road in Lake Station.

He says officers believe that the vehicle left the roadway and hit a NIPSCO pole and a tree before stopping when it struck a house.  Garber says it appeared to officers that the vehicle moved the house off its foundation shortly before midnight last night.

He says the driver was the only occupant in the vehicle, pinned in the driver’s seat with a head injury, and Lake Station Fire Department personnel extracted the Hobart man who was rushed to St. Mary’s Medical Center for treatment.  Garber says the driver was pronounced dead at the hospital.
