Highway Travel Focus of Road Crews as Holiday, and Precipitation, Arrives
December 20, 2013 — By Sarah Holst & Kristyn Estes
The weather forecast for this weekend is causing drivers — road crews — to prepare for the worst.
While it looks as if the Region will avoid getting hit by a major winter snow storm this weekend, heavy rains on top of melting snow could cause some flooding. And if temperatures drop later on this weekend, the travel picture could change.
The Indiana Department of Transportation is monitoring roadways, preparing for precipitation from flooding rain to sleet, snow and ice. INDOT spokesman Matt Deitchley spoke with Lakeshore’s Sarah Holst today about how the department is working to keep drivers safe on this busy travel weekend.
