High School Football Player Remembered At Service
September 30, 2013 — (AP) — Some 3,000 people filled the stands of LaPorte High School’s football stadium Sunday night to remember a team player who died after collapsing during practice.
The memorial service came four days after 17-year-old Jake West died from what doctors determined was an undiagnosed heart condition. The Associated Press reports that speakers at the service included West’s older sister, football teammates, the team’s head coach and ministers.
Members from several other area high school football teams also attended. Football team captain Michael Ash said West was the most positive person anyone could meet. He was a junior and played linebacker and lacrosse.
