Hearing On HIP 2.0 Set For Wednesday
May 27, 2014—By GRETCHEN FRAZEE, Indiana Public Media—
The Family Social Services Administration is holding two public hearings this week on the proposed expansion of the Healthy Indiana Plan, which Gov. Mike Pence is asking the federal government to approve as an alternative to Medicaid expansion.
HIP 2.o, as it’s being called, would expand the state-sponsored Healthy Indiana Plan to all non-disabled adults between the ages of 19 and 64 with household income below 138 percent of the federal poverty limit.
The first hearing will be Wednesday, May 28, at 9 a.m. at the Indiana Government Center South, Conference Center Room B, 402 West Washington Street, Indianapolis. The second will be held Thursday, May 29, at 1 p.m., at the Indiana State House, Room 156-B, 200 West Washington Street, Indianapolis. They will also be streamed online.
If the federal government approves HIP 2.0, it would extend Indiana’s Medicaid waiver through 2019 and would provide the state with financial assistance to expand health care coverage.
The plan is subject to a 30-day public comment period, which ends June 21.
