HAVE YOURSELF A JAZZY LITTLE CHRISTMAS! A DIFFERENT SIDE OF JIM SKAFISH
This edition of “MIDWEST BEAT with TOM LOUNGES” originally aired on December 3, 2013 and spotlighted region-made piano jazz holiday music from Northwest Indiana’s own international music talent, JIM SKAFISH.
Jim Skafish is perhaps best known as a ‘70s punk rock icon and as the namesake of the SKAFISH band featured in the film “Urgh!: A Music War” and signed to Miles Copeland’s legendary I.R.S. Records. This program another side of this multi-faceted musical talent, revealing Skafish is not only a rocker, but also an accomplished concert pianist, musical arranger and producer.
This other side of Skafish is revealed through interview questions, live phone calls from fans from across the country (Georgia, Florida, Arizona, Indiana, etc.), and the playing of key selections from Jim’s amazing instrumental holiday jazz album, “Tidings Comfort & Joy: Jazz Piano Trio Christmas.”
Throughout the program, “Midwest BEAT” listeners had opportunities to talk with Skafish and win personally signed copies of the CD to brighten their home for the holidays.
Watch for Skafish to return in SPRING of 2014 to “Midwest BEAT with Tom Lounges” for another in-studio sit down with Lounges about his overall career — from the mid-‘70s roots of punk through his dance music era and beyond.
