Hammond Mayor To Shave Head For St. Baldrick’s
Hammond’s mayor will be shaving his head for a cause this St. Patrick’s Day Weekend. Mayor Thomas McDermott Jr. will give up his hair for the St. Baldrick’s Foundation this Saturday. St. Baldrick’s is a foundation that raises money for childhood cancer research through head-shaving events. Since agreeing to have his head shaved he’s learned that a 5-year old Hammond boy, whose name is Michael, has been re-diagnosed with medulloblastoma — a form of brain cancer. Michael just finished his third brain surgery, and is beginning radiation treatments. Mayor McDermott will match the funds he collects for St. Baldrick’s, and donate the proceeds to Michael and his family. A Family Fun Night to benefit the family will take place later next month.
