Hammond Man Is Suing Federal Government
A Hammond man who is a member of the Michigan-based Hutaree Militia has filed a 16-count complaint against the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Michigan State Police alleging his Second and Fourth Amendment rights were violated in a 2010 raid.
Thomas Piatek is one of seven Militia members charged with weapons violations by federal agents and Michigan police in 2010. Last year a federal judge threw out the case saying there wasn’t enough evidence to support charges that the militia was plotting to kill federal agents.
The FBI reacted to the beliefs of the Hutaree Militia that the United States is led by the antichrist in the form of Barack Obama and that the Militia has a goal to create a colonial Christian republic.
