Governors Jointly Endorse Illiana Expressway Project
September 30, 2013 — (AP) — The governors of Indiana and Illinois have given their endorsement to the Illiana Expressway, the planned 47-mile expressway aimed at relieving traffic congestion and creating jobs in both states.
Illinois Governor Pat Quinn and Indiana Governor Mike Pence both threw their support behind the proposed Illiana Expressway during a regional summit last Friday at the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
The expressway would link I-65 in south Lake County, Indiana with I-55 in south suburban Chicago. The governors’ thumbs-up comes in the face of mounting opposition to the proposed highway.
