July 18, 2013 — Governor Mike Pence says he’s recommending Marsha Coats, the wife of U-S Senator Dan Coats, be named Indiana’s Republican National Committeewoman. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports:

Former Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman joined other top officials in the state Republican Party last month in a mass resignation, allowing Governor Pence to nominate a new leadership team. Skillman’s position – Republican National Committeewoman – was the last seat unfilled by Pence…until the governor Wednesday recommended Marsha Coats. In a statement, Pence praised the wife of Senator Dan Coats as a remarkable woman who has devoted her life to serving the Republican Party and the state. Pence notes her work with charities and volunteer organizations as well as her career as a teacher. The state Republican Party Executive Committee will vote on Pence’s nominations next week. For Indiana Public Broadcasting, I’m Brandon Smith.
