INDIANAPOLIS – Gov. Mike Pence will name a new state auditor at a press conference Thursday, more than a month after he essentially created the opening by picking the current office holder to be chairman of the Indiana Republican Party.

The announcement will come at a 9:15 a.m. press conference in the governor’s office. Pence has interviewed a number of people for the position.  A swearing-in ceremony is planned for Aug. 19.

The outgoing auditor – Tim Berry – resigned the post on Tuesday. He’s been serving as chair of the GOP since July 22 when the party’s state committee voted to confirm Pence’s pick.

Deputy Auditor Kirke Willing is serving on an interim basis for essentially one day.

“We thank Tim for his service to the people of Indiana,” Pence in a statement about Berry. “He put taxpayers first, implemented new financial accounting software and worked closely with local governments in his role as auditor, and we are grateful for his contributions.”

The new auditor will complete Berry’s term, which runs through 2014.
