April 10, 2014 — Indiana Public Broadcasting –Governor Mike Pence will leave this weekend for Germany on his second trade mission as governor. Indiana Public Broadcasting’s Brandon Smith reports:

Pence says the upcoming trade mission is all about what he calls his role as “salesman-in-chief,” selling Indiana as a place to move and expand a business. Pence says he will talk particularly about the state’s commitment to career and technical education at the high school level, something the governor says he discussed last year with Germany’s ambassador:

He compared that favorable to the German model that works in secondary education to create career pathways and is tremendously important in their success in manufacturing and heavy industry.”

Last year Pence visited Japan, Indiana’s largest foreign employer, for his first trade mission as governor. Germany is the state’s third largest foreign employer. And Pence says, as a relatively new governor, it’s important to cement already existing relationships:

When you’re promoting jobs, you want to balance that in outreach to businesses that are already in Indiana and also businesses that ought to be looking at Indiana.”

The trip is financed by private donations to the Indiana Economic Development Corporation.
