Good matchup in tinsiltown
(AP) — Division leaders Milwaukee and Los Angeles open up a weekend series tonight. The visiting Brewers start the day with a two game lead in the Central Division over St. Louis while Pittsburgh is 2 1/2 back. In the NL West the Dodgers top the Giants by 5 1/2 games. At 70-53 the Dodgers have the best overall record in the senior circuit.
The Giants are hosting the Phillies tonight while St. Louis is home to San Diego. The Pirates are on the road for a game against NL East leader Washington.
The best overall record in baseball belongs to the Athletics, and tonight the 73-48 A’s are opening a three-game series with the Braves in Atlanta. In the AL West, the Athletics top the Angels by just two games while the Braves in the National East are six back of the Nationals.
The hottest team in baseball continues to be the Royals. Kansas City has won nine of its last 10 games to take a half-game lead over the Tigers in the American League Central. Tonight the Royals are at Minnesota while the Tigers entertain the Mariners.
In the AL East, the top team remains Baltimore with a 7 1/2 game lead over the Blue Jays. The Orioles open up a weekend series against the Indians in Cleveland tonight while the Jays are in Chicago to play the White Sox.
The remaining games tonight have the Astros playing the Red Sox in Boston, the Yankees at Tampa Bay, Miami home to the Diamondbacks, Arizona at Miami, the Mets entertaining the Cubs, the Angels at Texas and the Reds in Denver against the Rockies.
