August 26, 2014 — Groups of gay-marriage supporters are in Chicago for a key hearing in their fight against same-sex marriage bans in Wisconsin and Indiana.

Couples met during rallies in Munster, Lafayette and Indianapolis yesterday afternoon…. saying they believe they’re on the right side of history.  An approaching thunderstorm sped along the rally held at Centennial Park in Munster.

The Munster event was part of a multi-city group of rallies in anticipation of Tuesday morning’s hearing on the state’s appeal of U.S. District Judge Richard L. Young’s ruling that said the ban was unconstitutional.  A stay was issued two days later by the U.S. Court of Appeal for the 7th Circuit in Chicago.Following the issuance of the appellate court stay, Gov. Mike Pence issued a memo to state agencies that they should proceed as if Young’s June 25th order had not been issued.

Attorneys representing the plaintiffs and the state of Indiana have filed briefs arguing their case, as have various other individuals and groups on both sides of the issue.
