Ritz Taking Gary Superintendent to China
October 1, 2013 — Gary Community Schools Corporation Superintendent Dr. Cheryl Pruitt is part of a group of Indiana educators who plan to join Indiana Superintendent of Public Instruction Glenda Ritz for a trip to China.
Ritz wrote to Pruitt to invite her to “travel with me and fellow educators to China” this month. The invitation says Pruitt was part of a select few chosen to join the working trip to visit Chinese schools along with education and government officials, “and examine pedagogical practices, including assessment and teacher evaluation, in the Chinese public school system.”
The trip plans include Shanghai, Hangzhou and Beijing.
Ritz’s invitation says the trip is organized by a not-for-profit effort, Global Indiana: A Consortium for International Exchange. Ritz says the trip is Global Indiana’s eleventh since 2006, and her invitation says the organization is getting support from another non-for-profit effort, the Chinese Education Connection of Carmel.
The invitation came early in the summer, and the trip occurs October 9-19, 2013.
