Gary Police Detective Accused Of Ghost Payrolling

Share Tweet Email

A Gary police officer has been charged with one count of ghost payrolling and two counts of theft, following an Indiana State Police investigation at the request of the Gary police chief.

36 year old Jennifer Powell … who was assigned to the detective bureau working sex crimes … is accused of falsifying payroll information for other full-time jobs that she held as a security officer at a trucking firm in Miller and a jailer with the Lake County Sheriff’s Department.  Powell was recently fired from the jail, allegedly for falsifying information on her application.

She likely will be transferred to non-police related duties as is the practice when Gary officers are charged with a criminal offense.
