Gary Police Command Staff Changes
August 11, 2014 — New Gary Police Chief Larry McKinley is making some changes in his command staff, effective today.
The only member of former Chief Wade Ingram’s staff to remain is Special Community Services Commander Kerry Rice. Rice joined the force 22 years ago. He was part of the city’s early federally funded Community Oriented Policing efforts.
The most notable change in police hierarchy is the removal of Cpl. Sean Jones, with Special Operations Commander Brian Evans taking over today. Jones was singled out in an Indiana State Police assessment of the department last year. Lt. Samuel Roberts is the new commander over police patrols, for Sgt. Michael Jackson.
The Gary Police investigative division will be led by Lt. Del Stout, who has spent most of his career as a detective. He takes over for Sgt. Jon Cooros. Stout’s previous assignment was in the training division. Sgt. Sarita Titus will oversee supportive services, which includes the communication center and technology matters.
