Gary Murder, Suicide Reported by Daughter
September 26, 2013 — Gary police say two morning deaths involve a murder and a suicide, and a girl who protected her siblings.
Police Corporal Gabrielle King says that a 43-year-old man shot himself after apparently shooting his 37-year-old wife.
King says a 17-year-old girl found her mother unresponsive at 1052 Harrison Street, after taking her siblings from the house earlier when she heard the adults arguing. Police say the girl heard a gunshot, took her siblings to a neighbor’s house and called police.
King says, “The 17 year old then returned to her house and found her mother unresponsive and asked her stepfather ‘what did you do?’ The 43 year old man then turned the gun on himself and pulled the trigger striking himself in the head.”
King says the girl told police that the woman victim was her mom and the man was her stepdad. Police found them in a bedroom, both victims of gunshots.
King says the couple was pronounced dead at the scene, their bodies in the custody of the Lake County Coroner, after medics on arrival found no pulse in either subject.
Police say the children are with family members.
