Gary Council Member Scott Faces Tax Charges

December 9, 2013 – A Gary City Council member faces a criminal tax charge tonight.  The United States Attorney in Hammond announced the filing of a two count claim against council member Ronier Scott.

U.S. Attorney David Capp says 42-year-old Scott was charged with willfully failing to file income tax returns for the 2008 and 2009 calendar years, and he says Scott signed a plea agreement in conjunction with the charges.

Capp says the charges are the result of an investigation by the Internal Revenue Service.  He emphasized that today’s Information is merely an allegation and that all persons charged are presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in court.

Scott is Gary’s Sixth District council member, serving a 2007-2013 term.
