Gary Conducts Special “Night Out”
August 6, 2014 — The city of Gary’s version of the annual National Night Out last night was a lot like other cities. but it was still different.
It was dedicated to the memory of fallen Patrolman Jeffery Westerfield, who was killed while on duty on July 6th, which was his 47th birthday. His eldest daughter, Allie, thanked everyone for coming out to Froebel Park. She also thanked them for their support of her family through their ordeal.
Gary Police Chief Larry McKinley says National Night Out is a way for residents to eat, play games, enjoy music and movies in the park… and to learn that police are also mentors.
The purpose of National Night Out is to heighten anti-crime and anti-drug awareness… strengthen neighborhood spirit… and police – community partnerships. Almost every Indiana community held its own National Night Out event last night.
