Gary and East Chicago Port Plans Require Study

Several legislative committees met this week in the region. A joint study Committee on Transportation and Infrastructure discussed bringing a new port to Lake Michigan. The Environmental Quality Service Council, chaired by Sen. Ed Charbonneau, looked at the Great Lakes Compact and ways to control the spread of the Asian carp. Charbonneau also wrote the bill which asked lawmakers to study whether to  bringing a port to Gary Indiana.

Also, The NTSB has determined the cause of a January 6, 2012 train crash involving three CSX trains outside of Valparaiso. Host Steve Walsh talks to the investigators about how texting by the conductor played  a role in the crash.
