Gary Airport Tower Staying Open, Staffed
Gary Airport officials say common sense is winning at least in the short term, now that federal officials have announced the air traffic control tower at Gary Chicago International Airport will remain open through September 30th.
Interim Airport Director Steve Landry says the Federal Aviation Administration shared that information Friday. Landry says the tower will be funded through the end of the federal government’s current fiscal year. The Gary tower and those at 148 other airports were scheduled to close in early April, a date that was later extended to June, a deadline that has now been pushed back to September.
