Flooding/Severe Weather Alerts Issued For Region

The National Weather Service has issued the following weather alerts for Northwest Indiana, in effect Thurday, 4/18/13:

Hazardous Weather Outlook

NWS cancelled the tornado watch it has issued during the morning, with the following notification around 10am:
Hi Lakeshore News,
National Weather Service has CANCELLED tornado watch for Lake,Benton,Newton, Jasper, Porter counties.

Lakeshore meteorologist Matt Wintz said today that the morning storms could relieve some atmospheric pressure, allowing weather to stabilize, though he’s watching conditions as they evolve. He’ll have an updated weather forecasts this afternoon on 89.1 FM The Lakeshore and on “Lakeshore News Tonight” at 9pm.

The National Weather forecast for today:
Showers and thunderstorms. Some storms could be severe, with damaging winds and heavy rain. Steady temperature around 66. Southeast wind 5 to 10 mph. Chance of precipitation is 100%. New rainfall amounts between a half and three quarters of an inch possible.
Tonight: Showers and possibly a thunderstorm before 1am, then showers likely. Some of the storms could produce small hail, gusty winds, and heavy rain. Low around 39. Breezy, with a west southwest wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New rainfall amounts between three quarters and one inch possible.
