Flash Flood Warning Issued For Lake And Porter Counties
The National Weather Service in Chicago has issued a Flash Flood Warning for Lake County, Indiana and Southwestern Porter County, along with major portions of the Chicago area. The warning is in effect until 2pm today. The NWS says bands of storms will move through the area this morning that could bring as much as 2-3 inches of rain to the region, at a rate approaching 1 inch per hour at times. Runoff from the heavy rainfall could cause flooding of small creeks and streams, along with highways, viaducts and underpasses. Country roads and farmlands along the banks of creeks are also subject to flooding. A Flood Warning For the Kankakee River at Shelby also continues today. Flood stage is 9 feet, and was measured at 10.0 feet at 3:45 this morning. The river is expected to continue rising to near 13.1 feet by early Saturday morning. A Flood Warning for the The Little Calumet River at Munster is in effect from this morning through Friday evening. The NWS is reporting a rapid rise in the level of the Little Cal, measuring the river at 14.6 feet this morning at 3am. Flood stage is 12.0 feet.
