FedEx play begins
PARAMUS, N.J. (AP) — The FedEx Cup playoffs begin today at Ridgewood Country Club in Paramus, New Jersey, with The Barclays. To the winner of the playoff, which ends in three weeks in Atlanta, goes a flat $10 million bonus.
The favorite, without question, is Rory McIlroy. He has won the last three tournaments he’s entered, the British Open, the Bridgestone and the PGA Championship, and starts the playoff as the points leader.
The playing field for the Barclays features the top 125 in the regular season FedEx standings. The field will be reduced each week until just 30 players are left for the Tour Championship in Atlanta Sept. 11-14.
