GARY — In 2013, Congressman Pete Visclosky challenged the participants of the Calumet Summit to “think big” and come up with what he called “a game-changing idea”for the future of the Calumet region, which stretches across state lines.  The group chose the Calumet National Heritage Area initiative for that “big idea.”  The feasibility study for the project comes up for public review this weekend at the 17th annual Calumet Heritage Conference in Gary.

I talked with Sherry Meyer, V.P. of the Calumet Heritage Partnership and Mario Longoni at the Field Museum in Chicago, one of the partnership’s participants about the feasibility study to be unveiled on Saturday for the National Heritage Area which will be eventually sent on to Congress for review and action next year.

More information is here about the upcoming conference and ways to register for it.
