July 24, 2013 — Pigs are doing booming business in Northwest Indiana. Here’s more on “Pig Adventure” at Fair Oaks Farms,  from Network Indiana’s Mike Corbin…

John Hoek  is Vice President for Pig Production at Bellstra Milling Company in De Motte. Hoek says his firm and Fair Oaks Farms are celebrating the success of their new venture called, “Pig Adventure.” Hoek says the new 2800 sow farm is also a full-on entertainment facility complete with museum. He says Pig Adventure has seen more than 13-thousand visitors since they officially opened July 1st. Hoek says the point of Pig Adventure is to give folks a view of modern farming and what “agri-tourism” means for Indiana. Hoek says visitors can see all of the latest touch screen technology and video production. He says they can also watch pigs being born, see sows being artificially inseminated and catch the latest advances in pig farming. Ticket prices are $25 for a two-day adult pass and $16 for two-day passes for kids. Fair Oaks Farms gets 200-thousand visitors a year. Hoek says much of the facility is powered by cow and sow manure. Pig Adventure buses are also powered by manure.
