Ex-Town Councilman Indicted For Theft
February 24, 2014 — A 40 year old former Merrillville Town Councilman faces a felony charge of theft in connection with missing funds from his business.
Indiana State Police say Terrell Taylor was indicted by a Lake County grand jury on Thursday as a result of a State Police investigation that started in May, 2013 into Taylor’s company, Taylor Development Corporation. Lowell Post spokesperson Sergeant Ann Wojas says Merrillville town officials suspected Taylor had forged business documents in May 2013 and asked the State Police to investigate.
Taylor served as a Town Council member between 2004 and 2008. He lost his re-election bid in 2007 by a handful of votes to Andy Sylwestrowicz, the council member he had originally unseated in the Democratic primary.
Taylor surrendered to authorities at the Lake County Jail on Friday and is free on bond pending a formal court hearing. He could face a sentence of between two to eight years in prison.
