Evironmentally Conscious Hoosiers to be briefed on pending legislation
Northwest Indiana residents who are concerned about the environment will learn about legislation currently in the 2015 General Assembly that is a threat to Indiana’s environment. The Hoosier Environmental Council will report on the state legislative issues at the Valparaiso Green Drinks meeting on Monday at Greek’s Pizzeria. Cobbie Ball, steering committee member of Valparaiso Green Drinks, says there are two bills in particular that are very disturbing. Ball says factory farms are very harmful to the environment. The second piece of legislation is House Bill 1351, which Ball says makes it more challenging for state agencies to be more proactive on measures that would protect the environment. Senior Staff Attorney Kim Ferraro will give further details at 7 p.m. Ball says the meeting will help Northwest Indiana residents concerned over the environment to express their concerns. Valparaiso Green Drinks meetings provide a forum for education and discussion of environmental issues. The meetings are held on the third Monday of the month at Greek’s Pizzeria on Indiana Avenue in Valparaiso.
