EPA Rejects Enbridge Extension

August 19, 2013 — The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency turned down Enbridge Inc.’s request for an extension to complete dredging of Michigan’s Kalamazoo River to clean up after a July 2010 oil pipeline spill.  The pipeline runs from Sarnia, Ontario, to Griffith, Indiana.

The Canadian pipeline company made the request earlier this month for the EPA to extend its deadline past December 31st, in part to opposition by some area residents over two chosen dredge pad sites near a lake. The EPA said Enbridge’s request was premature.
