Ewald Named Player of the Week
October 21,2013 – Indiana fifth-year senior kicker Mitch Ewald collected Big Ten Special Teams Player of the Week honors, the conference announced Monday. The honor is the second of Ewald’s career (Nov. 29, 2010).
Ewald drilled a 50-yard field goal, the first of his career and the 18th in school history, to close out Saturday’s first half at Michigan and added a 20-yarder in the third to become Indiana’s all-time field goal leader. The 50-yarder was the first for a Hoosier since Bryan Robertson (50-yarder) at Purdue on Nov. 23, 2002.
The Naperville, Ill., native is a perfect 5-for-5 on the season and 49-of-60 (81.7 percent) in his career. He is also the school’s all-time field goal percentage, extra points (141) and total kicker points (288) leader.
Ewald is one of 30 players on the Lou Groza Award Watch List for the third straight season.
