DONALD KINSEY: A SPOTLIGHT ON HIS JOURNEY IN MUSIC ~ PART 2
This edition of “MIDWEST BEAT with Tom Lounges” originally aired on TUESDAY, JANUARY 10 — 7:00pm
Musical Guest: DONALD KINSEY
“Reggae Music To Warm A Cold Winter’s Night”
The first show of 2017 aired on January 3rd and spotlighted Northwest Indiana’s blues and reggae guitar great, Donald Kinsey‘s career evolution from the streets of Gary, to life on the road with a blues legend, to being a band leader, to the paradox of violence and spirituality experienced on the island of Jamaica.
We left off in PART ONE of the Donald Kinsey career retrospective just as Donald’s time as a member of BOB MARLEY‘s backing group, THE WAILERS, was ending following a horrific assassination attempt the concert that followed.
On this week’s program, the journey of this hometown musical icon continues as PART TWO picks up with a phone call to Donald from reggae music icon PETER TOSH. This week includes Donald talking about his work with Tosh, touring with The Rolling Stones, dancing at Mick Jagger‘s birthday party, and his current return to live performing with THE WAILERS, as well as his playing gigs with Peter’s son, ANDREW TOSH. Kinsey will also reflect a bit on his playing as part of an All-Star reggae group at the opening day festivities of the Peter Tosh Memorial Museum in Kingston, Jamaica.
* Repeats on Friday, Jan. 13 @ 11pm.
