DoJ In Gary, Governor Sending Police
August 2, 2013 — United Stated Department of Justice representatives spent today and yesterday getting information about Gary’s violent crime.
They are part of state and federal officials responding to a recent rise in crime in the City of Gary. Yesterday, Indiana Governor Mike Pence responded to Gary’s request for state support for City policing efforts by agreeing to sent a technical team to Gary for two-to-four weeks, a response that came on a day when the U.S. Department of Justice met with Gary’s Anti-violence Task Force about the City’s nearly 50% increase in murder rates this year.
The Justice Department staffers spent Friday getting more information while in Gary, and reporter Renetta DuBose talked with Jodi Juhl about how the City’s increasing number of homicides will be met with help from state and federal government resources.
