Discrimination Claim Against Gary Middle College Operator
September 23, 2013 — The Indiana Civil Rights Commission says a former Gary Middle College principal has filed a discrimination complaint against the school.
Deputy Director Akia Haynes says the GEO Foundation which operates the college is accused of violating Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Indiana civil rights law for terminating the employment of a former principal based on his race and gender.
Hayes says the principal filed the complaint in May about his January dismissal saying he had never been subjected to disciplinary action even though the reason for his dismissal that was given referred to his, “increasingly harmful behavior issues.”
The complaint says the school treated caucasian and female peers more favorably giving them better opportunities.
