INDIANAPOLIS – Former Gov. Mitch Daniels will serve on the commission that sets debates for the 2016 presidential election.

Daniels, who is now the president of Purdue University and once was considered a Republican presidential hopeful, is one of six new members of the Commission on Presidential Debates, announced Frank J. Fahrenkopf Jr. and Michael D. McCurry, the group’s co-chairs.

“Presidential debates reach more viewers and listeners than any other political programming. They educate voters and motivate citizens to learn about the candidates and the issues,” Fahrenkopf and McCurry noted in a press release.

In addition to the co-chairs, the current commission directors are Howard G. Buffett, John C. Danforth, John Griffen, Antonia Hernandez, Reverend John I. Jenkins, Newton N. Minow, Richard D. Parsons, Dorothy Ridings, and Alan K. Simpson
