Cubs put up mock sign at Wrigley to check views

October 31, 2013 (AP) – The Chicago Cubs briefly erected a mock-up of a 650-foot sign the team hopes to build at Wrigley Field.

The exercise was done Wednesday to see how the sign would affect views from seats on rooftops of nearby buildings.

The rooftop owners have a contract with the Cubs to share revenue. They’ve said they may sue if the sign blocks views. Rooftop owners’ spokesman Ryan McLaughlin said Wednesday that the sign blocks views and “we’ll take legal action accordingly if they put them up.”

Cubs spokesman Julian Green disagreed. Green says the rooftops may not have the same view inside Wrigley Field, but the team believes “every rooftop owner will be able to have a view.”

The sign is part of a proposed $500 million upgrade to the historic ballpark.
