December 3, 2013 — The City of Crown Point is joining eight other northwest Indiana towns and cities in merging its Emergency 911 services into a single countywide network.

The Crown Point City Council unanimously voted for the merger in last night’s council meeting.  Mayor David Uran says he supports the E-911 merger because it will offer better emergency services, “The technology aspects of the 911 consolidation center, it’s going to be much more effective for our community will have direct benefit for calls of service and application when someone does call.”

Mayor Uran says state law has made the merger mandatory and steps toward consolidation must be implemented by December 31, 2014.  He says the merger will bring better service for residents because police and fire departments across northwest Indiana will be able to communicate more efficiently during emergencies.
