January 15, 2015 — Grants to support college and career programming for students in Central, Crown Point and New Castle, Ind.

The Indiana Commission for Higher Education awarded three $1,000 grants to Indiana schools this week in recognition of local efforts to help students prepare for college and careers during the state’s fall 2014 College GO! Week campaign. The three schools—an elementary school, middle school and high school—will use the grant funds to support local college and career programming activities during the next school year.

“We’re pleased to recognize these schools for taking active steps to ensure their students are on track for college and career success,” said Commissioner Teresa Lubbers. “Schools that incorporate relevant college- and career-readiness experiences for students play a critical role in helping Indiana grow a highly educated and skilled workforce.”

The 2014 College GO! Week grant winners are:

  • Heth-Washington Elementary School, South Harrison Community School Corp, Central
  • New Castle Middle School, New Castle Community School Corp, New Castle
  • Crown Point High School, Crown Point Community School Corp, Crown Point

Grant winners were selected based on alignment with College GO! Week goals: creativity in implementing age-appropriate activities; involvement and engagement of students, school staff and community members; and use of Learn More Indiana materials. Specific activities included participating in the College GO! Week student contests and hosting a College Application Day.
