Crown Point Kids Turn Plastic Caps Into Park Bench

Share Tweet Email

June 11,2014 — The City of Crown Point partnered with the Lake County Solid Waste Management District and the CAPS for a bench Program.  The result: fewer plastic caps going into the landfill, and something nice to sit on during warm, sunny summer days.

Crown Point residents and guests have been collecting plastic caps to provide benches at our Parks in the Community.  With the help of the Solon Robinson Elementary School third graders, who alone have collected over 1,500 lbs ., city spokesperson Diana Bosse says  we were able to receive 3 benches from the Lake County Solid Waste Management District and the City additionally purchased 2 benches.

In order to receive a bench we needed to collect 400 lbs. of plastic caps per bench. which drastically reduced the price of each bench to $200 each.
