Crossroads Regional Chamber Cancels Cobe Cup
The annual Cobe Cup antique car parade that is traditionally held during the Memorial Day weekend has been cancelled because of a shortage of volunteers to facilitate the event.
Cobe Cup partner Lowell Chamber of Commerce has also been unable to find volunteers, especially since the event is held during a holiday weekend. “As nonprofits, we count on our members to assist with large events,” said Sue Reed, president and CEO of the Crossroads Chamber.
“Crossroads Chamber has a growing list of events and programs that continue to pull us in a number of directions. For several months now we’ve been searching for another group that would have the resources to take over the Cobe Cup. With less than six weeks until the date of the event, we regret that we’re forced to cancel it,” Reed stated.
Reed says that the chamber membership still hopes that another group will step forward to adopt the Cobe Cup. It’s been a popular way to start the summer. In 2012 approximately 130 pre-1984 vehicles and their owners cruised along the historic route from the Lake County Fairgrounds to American Legion Post 101 in Lowell.
